2023

Estate Pinot Noir

Harvest date
September 24, 2023
Season rainfall
24.6 in

Pinot Noir · Eola-Amity Hills

Black cherry and dried cranberry over a core of damp earth and clove. Silky at the front, then a long, mineral finish that keeps coming back.

“A cool September gave us three extra weeks of hang time. This is the most complete young wine we have bottled.”

— Elise Marchand
2022

Hillside Block Pinot Noir

Harvest date
October 4, 2022
Season rainfall
31.2 in

Pinot Noir · Block 4, own-rooted

From the steepest rows on the property. Pomegranate, forest floor, and a faint smoke note; tight now, generous with an hour of air.

“Rain the week of harvest forced a fast decision. We picked by hand in two mornings and it paid off — this block sings.”

— Elise Marchand
2023

Estate Chardonnay

Harvest date
September 8, 2023
Season rainfall
24.6 in

Chardonnay · Dijon clone 76

White peach, lemon curd, and hazelnut, with just enough oak to frame it. Bright acidity carries it through a clean, saline finish.

“Picked at first light, whole-cluster pressed, no stirring. I wanted the hillside, not the winemaking.”

— Elise Marchand
2023

Rosé of Pinot Noir

Harvest date
August 29, 2023
Season rainfall
24.6 in

Rosé · direct press, dry

Wild strawberry and blood orange with a chalky, savory edge. Tastes like the smell of the vineyard at 7am in late August.

“Our first pick of every year. We pull the fruit a full month early just for this wine.”

— Elise Marchand
2021

Cellar Reserve Pinot Noir

Harvest date
October 12, 2021
Season rainfall
18.9 in

Pinot Noir · barrel selection, 118 cases

The deepest wine we make. Black raspberry, cedar, and crushed violets; structured enough to reward a decade in the cellar.

“A drought year with tiny berries and intense flavor. Two barrels stood out, so we bottled them separately.”

— Elise Marchand

The Story

How a hillside became a winery

Elise Marchand came to the Eola-Amity Hills in 2006 to work one harvest and never left the valley. In 2009 she bought eleven acres of windswept ground on Windmere Ridge — too steep for most crops, facing exactly the wrong way, she was told — and planted it to pinot noir and chardonnay herself, one vine at a time.

Fourteen vintages later, Vespera Cellars is still just the hillside, a converted barn, and a hand-picked crew every September. Everything is estate-grown, dry-farmed after the third year, and bottled on the property. There is no second label and no purchased fruit, because the whole point was the place.

“People ask me what our house style is. I tell them it is the afternoon wind coming through the gap in the hills at two o'clock. I am just the one who bottles it.”

— Elise Marchand, winemaker and founder
